About
EcoTrack is offline-first, blockchain-verified plastic waste traceability infrastructure. We create a verifiable record at every stage of the recovery process, making plastic waste traceability transparent and auditable for all stakeholders in the value chain.
The platform delivers what each party actually needs: collectors get recognition for their work, aggregators get network visibility, brands get compliant reporting, and regulators get verifiable data — all without requiring trust between parties.
The Problem
Kenya generates close to a million tonnes of plastic waste a year. Roughly 8% gets recycled. The rest is landfilled, burned, or washes into the ocean. Behind that number is an informal economy of waste pickers who do the bulk of the recovery work, paid by the kilogram, with no system that records what they collect or proves it happened.
Key Statistics
- 0.5–1.3 million tonnes of plastic waste per year in Kenya
- ~8% currently recycled
- 92% lost to landfills, rivers, and the ocean
Timeline
- Nov 2025 — Concept and development began
- May 2026 — Pilot launch in Mombasa
- 2027 — Scale to other Kenyan ports and EPR integration
Where We Are Now
EcoTrack has been live in a Mombasa coastal pilot since May 2026. The pilot is deliberately small: the goal is proving the infrastructure holds up under real field conditions, not maximizing volume. Built with enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure, with IOTA Foundation engaged as infrastructure partner.
